It is with great sadness that we announce the gentle and peaceful passing of Virginia Christine Moyle Breton-Jones on Friday, January 30, 2026. Ginny left this world with the grace and simple elegance with which she lived. In her final days she was surrounded by family and friends, with a steady stream of visitors, both in person and by telephone, whose positive energy kept her space full of light and love.
Born in Bournemouth, England on July 10, 1944, Ginny acquired her teaching degree at the University of Exeter and emigrated to Canada in 1968 with her first husband and an infant son, ultimately landing in Lemburg, Saskatchewan. After moving to Manitoba, she lived for short stints in Russell and St. Claude, finally settling in 1976 with her growing family of 4 children in The Pas. Until her retirement, she taught French at Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute to several generations of students. She then moved to Brandon where she kept busy for two decades, doing some substitute teaching, volunteering, singing in the church choir and spending time enjoying her favourite hobbies of traveling, gardening, dog walking, and winning at Scrabble.
She will be sorely missed by her children Mark Pugh (Shannon), Abigail Fontaine, Candida Whitbeck (Greg) and Monica Pugh. Her grandchildren Jasmine Bird (Dylan and their sons Remy and Theo), Jack and Mitchell Pugh, Samuel, Olivier, Angelique and Agathe Fontaine, Lily, Julianna and Jamie Etheridge and Faye Desjarlais will act as pallbearers as well as honourary porteuse, Olivia Erickson. Predeceased by her parents, Ronald Breton and Mildred Breton (nee Strick), her guardians Peter and Phyllis Williams, Richard Pugh (former marriage), husband Harold Dudley Jones, and grandson Thomas Pugh.
A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral, 403 13th Street, Brandon, where Ginny was an active parishioner, on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with light refreshments to follow. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in The Pas at on Monday, February 23, 2026 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or other charity of your choice.
